"I'm Chiba Usagi. I was once an average sixteen year old girl, but a cat with an odd marking on her forehead found me, changing my life. I, plain old Usagi, am the last heir to Crystal Tokyo, and in great danger from Muerte. Now, with my friends Mizuno Ami, Hino Rei, Kino Makoto, and Aino Minako, we are the Sailor Senshi. Together, we've defeated Muerte's henchmen . Now, to stop Muerte from destroying the world, we must find the last Talisman before she can." Sailor Moon: Generation Gap Chapter 7 - Video Game Horror! 's Legacy Hino Rei sat huddled over the video game's console. Her friend, Kino Makoto, stood back to watch the action on screen. Both girls were oblivious to the noise of the rest of the arcade. They were playing the Sailor Moon game, Rei having chosen to play Sailor Mars, while waiting for the rest of their friends to arrive. "No!" Rei cried, as she made Mars jump into the path of an enemy's attack. Mars de-rezzed, and the GAME OVER message faded in. "Almost there, too. You did see her?" "That tall, red-headed one, with a costume like Mars's?" Makoto asked. "So it's not just me. I've never seen them before, except in the game." "Could they be the ones who were at Emiko-chan's concert? I saw the news that night, and there was a glimpse of them." "Maybe. I didn't see the clip, though. Do you want to have a go at it?" "Sure. Thanks, Rei-chan." Makoto traded places with Rei, and inserted a token into the game. She hit the Start button, and was taken to the character choice screen. Makoto flipped through the characters, Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter . . . . "Rei-chan, you didn't have this choice," Makoto said. "Go one more screen," Rei answered. "See if Venus is there." Makoto did as asked, but wound up back at Sailor Moon. She looked up at Rei. "Want me to go backwards, like you did?" "Sure, try it." Makoto flipped back one screen, back to Sailor Jupiter. She selected the character, then waited for the game to load. "Is this the first time that this happened?" "I don't know. When I first played the game, Mars was a choice, but I found out later from Usagi that she enver had a choice when she started playing. I thought that Takao-san got updates whenever a new Senshi appeared, but wouldn't a new Senshi appear right away after an update?" "You'd have to ask Ami-chan. She would know more about that than I would." "They're late today, aren't they?" "Ami-chan has a practise tonight. The track team is racing this Friday. Usagi-chan and Minako-chan will bring her by." "Both of them?" "Test marks were posted today." "Ah, I understand," Rei said. -**- Lady Muerte strolled through her stronghold. Shadow warriors scrambled out of her way as she walked down one of her many hallways. As she passed 's quarters, she heard a buzz. Curious, she entered the room. A fine layer of dust covered the room, and the contents remained undisturbed since Muerte destroyed for his many failures against the Sailor Senshi. Muerte looked around from the doorway. The buzz sounded again, letting Muerte track the source to a receiver. Examining the receiver, she saw an indicator marked in twenty-percent intervals. The eighty-percent mark was reached, and may have been the cause of the buzzing. Muerte stood up, away from the device. She thought of calling for Guerre, then remembered that she had sent him on another task. Instead, she summoned a shadow. The shadow floated into the room cautiously. "Your name," Muerte demanded. "Fodera, Lady Muerte," the shadow answered meekly. "Find the signal sent to this device, then report back." Without another word, the shadow left to follow Muerte's orders. -**- Makoto played the video game for several minutes, quickly getting used to the controls and the combinations needed to use Jupiter's abilities. She didn't get as far in the game as Rei had, though. She missed a trap, and Jupiter fell into a bottomless pit on her last life. Makoto glared at the game, then looked up. Usagi, Ami, and Minako were just entering the arcade. She and Rei joined the others at a corner table. When they arrived, Usagi and Minako were trying to cheer up Ami. "What's wrong with Ami-chan?" Makoto asked. "She saw the test results," Usagi answered. "That . . . that *mouse* did it again," Ami growled. "Ami," Rei began, "there's no reason why there can't be two girl geniuses at your school." "That's not all," Minako added. "Mouse-chan was asked out today," Ami said. "On a date?" Rei asked. "On a date," Usagi confirmed. "Can you believe it? She's the shiest girl in the school." "I thought I heard something about a date," Makoto said. "Who asked her out?" "Inoue Eiji-kun," Minako answered. "He's kinda cute. I'm surprised he asked her out instead of me." "Weren't you asked out for this weekend already?" Usagi asked. "Three times." "Minako-chan . . . " Makoto sighed. "You can be happy with you're one boyfriend if you want, Mako-chan. I want to be happy with many people." "Maybe this will help you ignore the marks, Ami," Rei said. "How long should it take for an update to take effect in a video game?" "'Update'?" Ami repeated. "The Sailor Moon game updated itself again. Makoto was able to choose from Moon, Mars, Mercury, and now Jupiter." "Takao-san probably did an update last night." "That's what I was thinking, but how long would it take for players to see the new choice?" "Should be right away, Rei-chan." "So why didn't I have that choice? I played the game right before Makoto." "That's odd," Ami remarked. "Any other choices, Mako-chan?" "No, just Jupiter. No Venus, yet. Rei did get to another Mystery Senshi, though." "That's right. Not all the way there, but I did see her. Short hair, red uniform. Tall, too." "Two mysteries, now," Usagi remarked. "Those Mystery Senshi, and now the video game. Too bad you couldn't get past the new one in the game, Rei-chan." "What's that supposed to mean?" "If you were more coordinated, you could have been past her by now." "I don't see you trying to get farther in the game." "I have other things to do." "Will you two stop fighting?" Minako demanded. Rei and Usagi stopped bickering. "Thank you. How do we want to split this up?" "Split what up?" Makoto asked. "The investigations. The video game and the Mystery Senshi." "I'll take the video game," Ami offered. "It shouldn't take me too long." "I'll work on the Mystery Senshi," Makoto said. "Minako-chan, want to help?" "Alright, Mako-chan," Minako answered. "If Ami-chan doesn't mind, I'll help her with the video game," Rei said. "I'll look for a link between the game and those other Senshi. They appeared in the game before they were on the news. Usagi, what will you be doing?" "Muerte is still looking for the Crystal Princess," Usagi answered. "Selina and I are trying to find out what really happened in Crystal Tokyo." "Sounds good to me," Minako said. "We'll meet here again tomorrow night to compare notes." "I can't," Ami said. "The track meet is this Friday. Coach wants us to get some rest tomorrow night after practise. How about Saturday afternoon?" The girls all agreed on the time. They broke up, going off on their own investigations. -**- Fodera arrived in Tokyo as a puff of black smoke. The shadow took the form of a tall woman with dusky skin. She set off, trying to find the source of Muerte's transmission.
